It’s Never Too Late for a Couple Shoot

It was truly an honor to do this shoot with Bre and Jaime. We met at golden hour at a local Kansas City park and started chatting. I asked if they had ever had their pictures taken before (referring to senior photos individually), but to my surprise, I discovered that they hadn’t gotten couple photos done — not engagement photos or photos for their wedding.

Like many couples these days, the two had decided to opt for a simple wedding, to cut the cost and chaos of a big party. So, when I met with them, I was the first to ever do couples photoshoot with them! And, my word was it precious! And, like I said, an absolute honor.

Every couple has their own origin story and their own kind of joint personality if you will, and theirs was super sweet. It was precious getting to hear their story, and capture their love for the first time in a photoshoot.

PDA in Front of the Camera

During the shoot, Jaime and Bre expressed to me their discomfort with kissing in front of the camera. I want to mention this because I know that they are not the only ones who feel more private with public displays of affection. In a previous shoot I did a while ago, I asked the couple to kiss, and they did, but I could tell they were shy and a bit uncomfortable with it. So, this time, I asked ahead of time.

I am noting this because I believe it is really important that you feel comfortable being yourselves in front of the camera. I want to capture YOUR love story as it is. If you’re more private people, that is wonderful! Be you! There are lots of ways other than kissing that we can capture your genuine, heartfelt feelings for one another. At the end of the day, these are YOUR photos, so I want you to feel comfortable and connected with your partner. I want the photos to truly represent who the two of you are together. So, being comfortable is key.
